Did you know blue-green algae is the new black?
The often overlooked blue-green algae spirulina is actually packed with powerful health benefits. From lowering blood pressure and cholesterol to improving gut health to boosting energy levels, adding it to your daily diet, whether in powder or supplement form, is definitely a good idea.
I recently decided to try adding it to my morning smoothies, like this one:
- 1/2 cup frozen mixed berries
- 1 TBSP spirulina powder
- 1/2 avocado
- 1 cup vanilla-flavored coconut milk
- 1 cup fresh spinach leaves
- 1 packet frozen acai with kale and spinach
It actually adds a subtle flavor that you may have to get used to, but I can tell an immediate difference in my energy level when I consume it. One tablespoon serving has 5g protein and only 25 calories. It's raw, vegan, and non-GMO. I used 360 Nutrition brand in a powder form.
I'd love to hear from y'all! Is anyone using spirulina in their diets, and how?
