Our baby girl turned one month old this past weekend, so it seemed like the perfect time to announce her arrival! (Hey, this is what life with three young kiddos looks like.)
Eva Caroline made her grand entrance into the world July 15, five days past her due date and not a moment too soon! Her birth was absolutely perfect, and I'll write more about that later. I can't wait to share her birth story!
This first month has been a whirlwind, and we've just been taking our precious time adjusting, slowing down our schedule and breathing it all in. It took a little while for us to find our groove with feedings and to settle into a new routine as a family of five, but life could not be sweeter. The boys are so enamored by their baby sister and are a big help to me in taking care of her. Riley has taken up the job of Eva's bodyguard; he stands watch while I feed her and hovers over her bouncy seat, watching her every move. He loves to show her his cars and give her kisses. Liam's words the week before Eva was born sums up his feelings perfectly: "I can't wait to meet baby Eva, and when she gets here I'll sleep in the guest room with her. And I'll protect her from monsters. We can have waffles and vitamins in the morning." It has been a dream watching them love her!
Life with three is crazy! I seem to have lost my ability to text and respond to messages, and I can forget talking on the phone! Heck, I consider the day a success if I have managed to brush my teeth before lunch! But who cares? Knowing this is our last baby, even the tiniest milestone is sacred because it's the last time we'll experience it. I even got emotional the first time we gave Eva a bath, because it was the "last first bath we'll ever give." The laundry and social calendar can wait, amiright?!
At one month old, Eva is waking up once in the night to eat, usually around 3 a.m. Baby girl LOVES to eat, though. She's still eating about every two and a half hours during the day, and she takes in more than four ounces at each feeding. I can't imagine where she gets that appetite from (wink wink)! At her recent checkup, she weighed 8 pounds, 7.5 ounces (in the 20th percentile) and was 22 inches long (80th percentile). She has the prettiest smile, sleeps like a champ, loves cuddling, having her hair brushed, and baths, and looks smashing in mint green and peach. Among her dislikes are hiccups and dairy. She has a winning personality and is such a joy to the rest of us!
